Photograph of the bronze equestrian statue of Philip IV (1605-65), located in the centre of the Plaza Oriente, Madrid. The statue is photographed in right side profile.

The monument was executed by the Italian sculptor Pietro Tacca in the mid 1640s. With a hollow front and a solid rear, the King's horse is cast as rearing up on its hind legs, on top of a large plinth which features relief carving.
