c.1853-76Albumen print | 20.0 x 29.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853693
A photograph of a drawing catalogued by Ruland (1876) as then being in the Royal Library at Turin. According to Ruland (1876), the drawing is the 'original red-chalk study for the principal group' in the almost entirely destroyed fresco 'Bathsheba interceding with David on behalf of Solomon' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the eleventh bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican.
According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs.
