AFTER A WORK ATTRIBUTED TO RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

The Incredulity of St Thomas

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 17.3 x 16.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852664

A photograph of a drawing attributed to Raphael now in the Städel Museum, Graphische Sammlung, Frankfurt am Main (inv. no.4302). The drawing is a design for a circular bronze relief intended for the chapel of Agostino Chigi in the church of Santa Maria della Pace, Rome, now in the Abbey of Chiaravalle. The authorship of the bronze tondo is an ongoing matter of debate. For further discussion, see Bibliographic References.
