Prince Albert writes that he is sorry that the furnishing of the apartment at Holyrood has fallen back on the Lord Chamberlain. He also mentions that he has had to withdraw his suggestion of allowing retired officers to keep their uniform and rank as a result of the Duke of Wellington's reasons against the scheme.
