Miss Heath & Miss Leclercq as Florizel and Perdita
1856Wet collodion negative | 25.3 x 20.3 cm (whole object) | RCIN 2084934
10" x 8" glass plate negative showing Caroline Heath and Carlotta Leclercq as Florizel and Perdita in The Winter's Tale. Leclercq is standing and wearing a dress with a ribbon tied at the waist, flowers around her head and across her torso. Flowers are also wrapped around a shepherd's crook she is holding with one hand. Heath, playing Florizel under the guise of a shepherd named Doricles, is sitting at her feet, with one hand resting on the ground and the other holding a pan flute to her mouth. They are both on a patterned carpet with a plain background behind them.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
