Glass plate negative of a painting by Carl Haag (RCIN 451256) based on an event as described by Queen Victoria in her journal during a trek to the Banioch Shiel in 9 October 1861. The scene shows Queen Victoria (1819-1901) Prince Albert (1819-61) and Princess Alice (1843-78) and others crossing the River Tarff on ponies and foot. The group are preceded by two men playing bag pipes and in front of them, a guide who wade through the water up to their waists.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exist in the Collection, RCIN 2160366.
